Carlsberg cuts emissions by 12% in journey towards net zero

The Carlsberg Group’s 2020 Sustainability Report has shown a decrease in the carbon emissions it produces, as it looks to achieve net zero.

Throughout 2020 there was a 12% reduction in carbon emissions per 100 litres across its breweries from the previous year. The company states it is on track to achieve a 15% reduction by 2022 and 30% by 2030.

Carlsberg claims three of its breweries achieved carbon-neutrality in 2020 and it reduced its overall water usage by 7%. The report also highlights that 64% of its electricity was from renewables and it aims to make that 100% by 2022.

Carlsberg’s efforts have resulted in a place in CDP’s ‘A List’ for companies leading in environmental action.

Cees ‘t Hart, CEO at the Carslberg Group, stated: “2020 was a challenging year for our business, our customers and our people all around the world.

“At Carlsberg, we continued our efforts to help communities in this challenging time, while working to reach our ambitious targets to cut carbon and water waste. We will not let COVID-19 throw us off course”.
