Groupe Renault and Faurecia to collaborate on hydrogen storage systems

French car manufacturer Groupe Renault has announced its collaboration with automotive supplier Faurecia, to implement hydrogen storage systems into commercial vehicles.

Faurecia will provide Renault with hydrogen storage systems for the first vehicles to be upgraded from the end of 2021.

The systems will be developed by Faurecia in Bavans, France and the supplier is currently constructing a new plant dedicated to hydrogen storage systems, which will be based in the nearby commune of Allenjoie.

The announcement is the latest action of its kind from Renault, following its testing of hydrogen-powered trucks back in 2019.

Mathias Miedreich, Executive Vice President at Faurecia, said: “This partnership is an important illustration of our common vision for expanding the use of hydrogen as a cornerstone of the energy transition and as a perfect solution for zero emissions mobility.

“Fuel cell electric vehicle technology is set to become significant in the powertrain mix by 2030 and as such, Faurecia is dedicating important resources to accelerate its deployment.”
